During the first and second phases of the project, nearly $50,000 was raised to expand the Vietnamese language collection at the Thomas Jefferson library and to begin construction of the brick walkway, a symbolic “gateway to freedom.” The walkway features engraved bricks and a plaque in front of the library, which lists the sponsors who contributed $1,000 or more. Meeting with President Obama

On the afternoon of May 2, 2014, President Obama met with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) business and faith leaders in the Roosevelt Room to discuss the importance of taking action to pass commonsense immigration reform. The meeting coincided with the start of AAPI Heritage Month, an opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate many contributions that AAPIs have made to this great nation.

The participants at the meeting represented the success of the AAPI community and the promise of the American dream – a dream that remains out of reach for many new immigrants because of our broken immigration system.

Mr. Toa Do, President of BDAG was one of the 11 participants in the meeting, along with U.S. Representatives Judy Chu and Mike Honda of California. To read more about the meeting, please visit the White House Press Office.
